Passion, Hobbies, “Me Time”…Who has time for that?

My husband loves his career in law enforcement. He has wanted to work in law enforcement since he was little and for the past five years he has been pursuing his dream and doing one hell of a job at it too. He loves what he does. He loves to go to work. The thought that someone might actually love to go to work still amazes me. Maybe because I have never felt that way about any of my jobs. And yes, they were just jobs-not careers.

I will never forget coming home from our amazing honeymoon in Jamaica. I was dreading the thought of returning to work after a glorious week and a half vacation. My husband, on the other hand, could not wait  to get back. He actually said he “missed” work! What was I doing wrong?

Since that day, I have felt that I am missing that passion in my life. I am 25 years old, married with two kids, and have NO idea what I want to be when I grow up. I don’t even have a hobby that I can say I thoroughly “love!”

Yes, I love  being a stay at home mom…now. But, in ten years, the kids will be older. They will have their own friends, their own hobbies.

I am determined to take this time to find my passion…or at least a few hobbies.

But how do you find Passion? Inspiration?

For those of you who are moms, you know it is a battle to find time for you.

Between getting the kids ready for school, to changing diapers, to bottle feedings, emptying the dishwasher, getting the laundry done and hopefully folded before it sits in the dryer for two days, and oh wait! don’t forget about the dogs- you are lucky if you even have the energy to shower at the end of the day let alone think about goals and desires.

So for all of you out there…What are your passions, hobbies? How do you find your inspiration? How do you find time?

P.S. I know cooking is a huge hobby for people, therefore, I am going to give it a try. Growing up in a house where dinner consisted of cereal, hamburger helper, and frozen lasagna didn’t quite give me the skill sets to be a  connoisseur around the kitchen. So, we will see…will keep you posted.

  1. My laundry has been sitting on the love seat since Friday and I’m still trying to figure out when I’m going to shower today! Who has time for hobbies, let alone cooking dinner? But, yes, I do cook dinner and thoroughly enjoy it. Maybe take up what I call a non-intrusive hobby, like writing, blogging or any other thing you can do between (or during) tasks. Then in a few years, when you really have time, delve into that hobby further or enjoy the search for a new one! When I started at home with my daughters, I found myself in the same boat. I didn’t know what to do for myself. Then, my husband dumped a hobby in my lap. He wanted to do some landscaping and do you know what? I found that I love perennial gardening! It keeps me busy in the summer months when I’m not homeschooling.

Best of luck in your search for your hobby!

  2. Thank you aka teacher, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has felt this way. I just started blogging and am enjoying it so far. It is very non-intrusive in the fact that I can jot down my thoughts while the little one is napping. Thanks again for our comments!
Here’s to both of us finding time to shower everyday! 🙂
